Gargouille

Gargouille, publication, 20 pages, 152 x 218mm
Gargouille is a publication inspired by my fascination with gargoyles, their haunting beauty, layered symbolism, and presence in both myth and architecture. This publication features three texts exploring different aspects of these figures: their protective and demonic associations, their historical roles, and the myths that have shaped how we see them.

Gargouille is an exploration of contrast, between beauty and monstrosity, function and fantasy, simplicity and ornament. Visually, the design remains simple and restrained, allowing the content to take center stage. It invites us to question why we have historically adorned holy places with monstrous figures. Are they warnings, protectors, or something else entirely? Exploring their history and symbolism reveals a world where beauty and terror coexist, a world I find endlessly intriguing.
